Ottawa Township High School will not tolerate harassing, intimidating conduct, or bullying whether verbal, physical, or visual, that affects the tangible benefits of education, that unreasonably interferes with a student’s educational performance, or that  creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive educational environment.  The terms “intimidating,” “hostile,” and “offensive” include conduct that has the effect of humiliation, embarrassment, or discomfort.  Examples of prohibited conduct include, but are not limited to, severe or pervasive name-calling, using derogatory slurs, stalking, causing psychological harm, threatening or causing physical harm, threatened or actual destruction of property,  wearing or possessing items depicting or implying hatred or prejudice, or retaliation for asserting or alleging an act of bullying.  The means by which bullying or harassing behavior may be relevant to this policy include physical or verbal actions, or communications made in writing or electronically, and with a reasonable relationship to the school or the students’ educational progress.  Any person who engages in severe or pervasive behavior such as harassing, intimidating, or bullying is subject to appropriate disciplinary consequences.
