Freshman Academy Counselor (Class of 2021) - Mrs. Kim Swords, Counselor
Mrs. Kim Swords
Hi, My name is Kim Swords. I will be the freshman counselor this year. This is my 25th year at OTHS and having had two of my own go through the academy, I am excited to guide your students through their freshman year.
My role as counselor will be to provide your students with Academic, Career/College and Personal/Social Development support.
Specifically with the Academic support, I will be meeting with the teachers weekly and we will play an integral part in communication and support.
Career/4-year planning development will be provided throughout the year.
Personal/Social-emotional support is on an as needed basis. We are not therapists and so we are unable to offer long-term counseling. Our goal is to address the problem/issue and get students back to class so that they can be successful. If we feel a student is in need of more care, a phone call will be made, examples may be severe depression, suicidal thoughts etc. I am located in room 203 and students are welcome to sign in and meet with me throughout the day should they have any concerns. We also have two other professionals on staff that can provide personal/social-emotional support and they are our Social Worker, Mrs. Hiland, located in room 602 and/or our Pyschologist, Mrs. Wrublik, located in room 207.
We offer a handout that should help when navigating through the website. It is available outside room 203. All you need is a username and password which was provided.
